4-star superior Hotel Plunhof
Ridnaun – Ratschings, South Tyrol, Italy

Dive into Acqua Minera, reenergise in the grotto realm. Enjoy real Italian cappuccino. Experience indulgent organic and high-tech treatments. At 1,340m above sea level, a wellness holiday at the 4-star superior Hotel Plunhof offers a truly extraordinary experience: Spa Minera and Acqua Minera, Europe’s only ‘wellness above and below the surface’ destination spa, inspired by the centuries-old mining tradition around Ridnaun.

Guests make the most of the feel-good atmosphere in the saltwater whirlpool, world of grottos, saunas, steam room and infrared cabin, the shower temple and the amazing relaxation areas where they can go to ground in a ‘world of mining’. The award-winning spa was expanded by around 1,800sqm in 2018 and, since the grand opening in early 2019, now offers 4,000sqm of space for blissful wellbeing. The wellness oasis is a delight thanks to its new Acqua Minera encompassing a 20m indoor pool and a relaxation pool linked to the outdoor poolscape, which features a year-round heated 17m outdoor pool and whirlpool, framed by a 173sqm natural pool with built-in water loungers. A panoramic gym and studio for Yoga, fitness and meditation are further highlights. The Spa menu emphasises the power of nature with signature beauty treatments using silver quartzite, Ulten sheep’s wool, salt and stone pine.

Paula Volgger and her eight children manage the hotel, offering delicious cuisine, 67 comfortable rooms and suites, and a wonderful family atmosphere. Appreciation of tradition and love of nature are a characteristic of the house, particularly reflected in Peter and Egon Volgger’s seasonally-inspired Mediterranean-Alpine dishes. The hotel’s ‘Bacchus’ wine cellar holds more than 600 selected labels with a focus on South Tyrol and Italy.

Guests looking for Alpine outdoor fun can benefit from the hotel’s weekly activity programme, with adventure and culinary treats at the hotel’s own Tötschalm at 1,700m, guided e-bike tours, cookery classes, wine tastings and wine appreciation seminars. Other activities include mountaineering or high Alpine tours to 3,000m, fishing, mountain biking, Nordic walking, skiing, winter hiking, touring, tobogganing and cross-country skiing.
