Jewels in the snow
with Niche Destinations – Ski holidays with a twist
The niche destinations collection of exclusive privately-owned hotels in Austria includes nine spectacular ski properties. Each has its niche, adding an extra dimension to make a ski holiday memorable.
The 5-star Relais & Châteaux Rosengarten, in the pretty village of Kirchberg near Kitzbühel, is a must for the skier who demands the best in world-class skiing and gastronomy. Restaurant Simon Taxacher’s culinary pedigree – 4 toques and 19/20 in the definitive Gault&Millau guide – as well as the award-winning Bistro Restaurant Rosengarten, speaks for itself, and the hotel combines warm Tyrolean hospitality with a chic modern style. The wellness and fitness facilities at the Rosengarten SPA have recently been expanded to include a new gym and indoor pool. The architecture and interior design reflect Simon Taxacher and Sandra Kobald’s impeccable standards. The 15m pool features integrated Jacuzzi beds and represents a sympathetic addition to the Rosengarten SPA’s wellbeing zone. The world-famous Kitzbühel Ski Circus, reached via the comfortable Maierlbahn lift 500 yards from the hotel, offers inexhaustible skiing for all abilities, with 170km of pistes and 59 mountain huts in the Kitzbühel Alps, and a further 280km of pistes and 77 huts in the nearby Skiwelt Wilder Kaiser area, also covered by the regional lift pass.
The Relais & Châteaux Singer Sporthotel & SPA benefits from a ski-in, ski-out location in Berwang, a peaceful Tyrolean bolthole where guests return year after year to relax and be pampered in the elegant Singer’s SPA: 1,800sqm of superior spa facilities and glorious pool looking out over the snow-covered landscape and surrounding mountains. The high-altitude Zugspitz ski area offers blissfully sunny skiing and reliable snow, with exciting powder runs, beautiful cross-country and snow-shoeing trails above the Lechtal valley. Skiing in Berwang is great for families, beginners and returners as well as advanced skiers. 36km of wide, perfectly groomed slopes along with Skischule Berwang and Bobo’s Kinderclub offer age- and ability-appropriate skiing for the whole family.
Set in the centre of the idyllic Austrian mountain village of Fiss, the Hotel Tirol recently celebrated its 60th anniversary with a rebuild and renovation, reopening on 7 December 2017. The hotel is a five-minute walk to the Möseralm cable car, giving easy access to the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis region with its 68 lifts, 212km of ski routes and some of the best ski schools in the country. The remodelling involved creating 22 new rooms, among them are 14 new, individually designed, mountain-themed rooms which feature the Alpinist, Tyrolean, Skier and Forest Wanderer. Created by local artist Monika Maslowska, these delicate character illustrations bring the Alpine surroundings of the Hotel Tirol inside. There’s also the new Gipfel SPA wellness area which sits on the fourth floor. Free to access for guests, the centrepiece of this oasis of indulgence is the state-of-the-art rooftop infinity pool – the most beautiful on the Fiss plateau – offering spectacular views over the surrounding peaks and the wonderful Alpine scenery.
