‘Silent Night, Holy Night’
The most famous Christmas carol in the world is celebrating its 200th anniversary next year. On 24 December 1818, Joseph Mohr and Franz Xaver Gruber played their carol for the first time. It’s a cause for celebration in the Salzburg region, Upper Austria and Tyrol, where they start marking the anniversary in 2017. The carol Silent Night, declared an intangible cultural heritage in Austria by UNESCO in 2011, epitomises the Christmas tradition in the German-speaking world.
Stay at the Sporthotel Alpenblick during the lead up to Christmas and take day trips to the sites in SalzburgerLand associated with Silent Night and its creators.
