DREAMING OF ESSAOUIRA
In just 5 minutes we can be on the beach, at the old harbour, or in the heart of the Medina. We can wander through the ancient winding alleys for hours, discovering little artisan workshops, spice merchants and buskers. A smile says a thousand words – we feel like we’re amongst friends …
We stroll through the old streets to the harbour and check out the fish auction – a real experience! How about grilled sardines, straight out of the sea? Afterwards we collect souvenirs from the souks… I’m sure we paid too much for the gorgeous babouches, but never mind. When we see them we remember our time in Essaouira and Heure Bleue Palais – memories to treasure.
INSPIRING ESSAOUIRA
We take a dip in Heure Bleue Palais’ heated rooftop pool and feel on top of the world, the views of the ocean are simply enchanting. Then it’s time for an Argan oil massage and a heavenly Hammam treatment in the Petit Spa… it’s not true that you can have too much of a good thing! Feeling completely relaxed, we’re ready for an afternoon refreshment. Rachid shares the secrets of how to prepare traditional mint tea, we tried it at home but the tea seems more refreshing in Essaouira – was it the Moroccon mint’s unique taste, or the eight lumps of sugar?
We were carefully watching during the cooking class – but know that we could never make the dishes as well as Chef Ahmed does! We decided to make reservations in the Salon Oriental to enjoy that delicious couscous all over again. After our meal we sip Heure Bleue Val d’Argan – the hotel’s own wine – and chat and laugh in the intimate atmosphere of the palm-shaded patio.
EXCITING ESSAOUIRA
Despite an indulgent night we’re up bright and early for a kitesurf over the waves, followed by a camel ride along the beach. The next day we enjoy a round of golf at the beautifully designed Golf Mogador before a trip to the Val d’Argan winery to see where our new favourite tipple is produced. You are never bored when you are in Essaouira!
The world’s best Argan oil is produced in the Essaouira region and local Berber people have used it for centuries in food preparation, cosmetics and medicine. While at Heure Bleue Palais take a 4×4 excursion to an Argan oil cooperative.
