A PEEK INSIDE THE MOST
UNCONVENTIONAL ALPINE LODGE IN AUSTRIA
We load our luggage into the cable car and take the journey through the mountains to 1,300m altitude and the Angerer Alm. The evening sun casts an enchanting glow across the mountains and the beauty of nature captivates. The Alpine lodge invites, welcomed with warm, classically Tyrolean hospitality we explore the rustic hut and revel in the authentic style before taking refuge in our charming room.
The rooms are simple, furnished with gingham bed linen, old country furniture and even bunk beds! There are no TVs, mini-bars or en-suite bathrooms; this Alpine hut is utterly authentic. Instead of your classic 5-star comforts the Angerer Alm offers luxuries such as stepping out onto the bedroom balcony and watching the sun rise from behind the Kitzbüheler Horn, or sitting by the fire with a good book, completely distanced from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Femininity reigns supreme
We are constantly impressed by the unassuming warmth owners Annemarie Foidl and her daughter Katharina exude. The formidable duo run the Angerer Alm with undiluted commitment, professional know-how and bags of charm. Annemarie’s great passion is viniculture, she is a Sommelier graduate and the President of the Austrian Association of Sommeliers. Her love on the subject is aptly demonstrated in her kingdom of wine with 6,000 bottles from 400 wineries around the world – as such one of the finest cellars in the Alpine region and perfectly complementing the sublime food at the Angerer Alm.
After a short rest we make our way to the restaurant, take our seats on old country chairs, and get ready to devour a multi-course meal. The menu gives us no clue as to what we will be served because the gourmet treats are created anew each and every day, providing us with a welcome element of surprise! The food does not disappoint! From the very first bite it is clear that the produce is super fresh, and it’s comforting to know that all ingredients have been sourced from well-known and respected suppliers.
